Keio University, Tokyo University of Science, and RIKEN have established the Health Commons Consortium (HCC) with the aim of realizing an inclusive society where people who have suffered from post-illness illness can live positively.
"Post-illness patients" is a term unique to this center, referring to people who, after being diagnosed with various diseases and receiving treatment at medical institutions, have achieved complete remission but are concerned about relapse or recurrence; those with chronic diseases who must continue to live with the illness even after treatment; and those living with post-treatment after-effects such as stroke.
HCC is an organization that evolved from the Health Commons Co-creation Hub established under the Japan Science and Technology Agency's Co-creation Platform Formation Support Program. Centered around Keio University, Tokyo University of Science, and RIKEN, it develops interdisciplinary research utilizing a science knowledge and data infrastructure built by academia and companies. Together with participating companies, local governments, and civic groups, it develops services that support individuals and families facing post-treatment concerns and aims for their social implementation. It also focuses on developing medical, nursing care, and healthcare services utilizing research data, and training specialists who can leverage AI and data science expertise in the healthcare sector.
