Kyoto Prefectural University (Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City) will increase the number of students admitted through school recommendation-based selection in four faculties—the Faculty of Letters, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, and the Faculty of Environmental Sciences—starting with the 2027 academic year entrance examinations. In addition, the Faculty of Letters will also increase its admission quota through general selection, bringing the total university-wide enrollment capacity from 459 to 494, an increase of 35 students.
The Faculty of Letters has three departments: Japanese and Chinese Culture, International Cultural Exchange, and History. All three departments will see an increase in their enrollment quotas for both the school recommendation-based selection and the general entrance examination (first term). Furthermore, the Japanese and Chinese Culture and International Cultural Exchange departments will also see an increase in their enrollment quotas for the general entrance examination (second term). The Faculty of Social Sciences consists of two departments: Public Policy and Social Welfare. Both departments will see an increase in their enrollment quotas for the school recommendation-based selection.
In the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science, the number of students admitted through the school recommendation-based selection process will increase in the Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences (one of three departments), and in the Faculty of Environmental Science, the number of students admitted through the school recommendation-based selection process will increase in the Department of Forest Science (one of two departments). The increase in these two departments is due to the affiliated high school quota (Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences = Kyoto Prefectural Noge High School, Department of Forest Science = Kyoto Prefectural Kitakuwada High School). If the number of successful applicants through the affiliated high school quota falls short of the number of students admitted, the vacancies will be added to the admission quotas for other categories of the school recommendation-based selection process (within Kyoto Prefecture and nationwide) and the general selection process (early and late periods).
Nationwide, while the number of available places in the "digital and green" fields within science, engineering, and agriculture continues to increase, it is rare to see increases in the number of places in the Faculty of Letters or the Faculty of Social Sciences.
