Chukyo Gakuin University and Chukyo Gakuin Junior College, established and operated by the Chukyo Gakuin Educational Corporation (Mizunami City, Gifu Prefecture), have announced that they will change the names of their universities starting in the 2027 academic year. The new names will be "YIC Chukyo Gakuin University" and "YIC Chukyo Gakuin Junior College." The abbreviation and name will be "yiCGU," and the previously used "CGU" will also be used.
Regarding the reason for prefixing the name with "YIC," the university explained that "the philosophy of 'Your Institute of Community Education' that YIC embodies aligns with our university's future vision of developing together with the community as a local university, and we wanted to demonstrate this stance." The university had signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with YIC Gakuin Educational Corporation and Hiroshima Jogakuin University in June 2025.
Even after the university name change, the founding and operating body will remain "Chukyo Gakuin Educational Corporation," and there are no plans to change it in the future. In addition, the plan to relocate and unify the Mizunami Campus and Nakatsugawa Campus in Tajimi City and open a new campus will be implemented as scheduled in April 2027. Preparations are underway to ensure access to the Tajimi Campus, including extending the bus route from Tajimi Station to the new campus.
Furthermore, Hiroshima Jogakuin University (Hiroshima Prefecture), which has a partnership agreement with the university, will change its governing body from Hiroshima Jogakuin Educational Corporation to YIC Gakuin Educational Corporation in April 2026, and will then change its name to "YIC Gakuin University" from April 2027.
