On August 20, 2026, Tamagawa Gakuen Educational Corporation and Mori Town, Kayabe District, Hokkaido, signed a cooperation agreement. They will cooperate with each other in the fields of education, culture, industry, community development, environment, and academics to contribute to the development of Mori Town and the nurturing of human resources who will play an active role in the region.
At Tamagawa Gakuen, as part of the "Off-Campus Studies" course in the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Tamagawa University, they have been engaged in practical learning focused on regional revitalization. In Hokkaido, they began their activities in Hakodate City in 2008, and since 2012, they have been conducting continuous community collaboration activities based in Mori Town, Kayabe District, located an hour by train from Hakodate Station and facing Uchiura Bay. Over 200 students have participated in these activities to date, and it has continued to develop over many years as a practical educational program in which students think for themselves and plan and manage projects for children while confronting local issues.
Furthermore, following the establishment of the "Tamagawa Mokurin Project" at Tamagawa Gakuen in 2022, the "iroMori" facility for training young people in the industry was opened in Mori Town in 2023. The Agriculture and Forestry Division and the Regional Revitalization Cooperation Team have been focusing on promoting timber and wood education. These efforts have deepened cooperation with the aim of revitalizing the region and developing the next generation of talent, leading to the signing of this agreement. The "Tamagawa Mokurin Project" is also expanding in Machida City, where the school campus is located, and has signed a resource recycling business cooperation agreement with the city to develop regional cooperation activities.
Moving forward, building upon our previous efforts, we will promote regional digital transformation (DX), advance urban development through the construction of sustainable public transportation networks, and conduct student internships and fieldwork that contribute to creating and expanding the number of people connected to the region.
On August 21st (Friday) and 22nd (Saturday), 2026, Tamagawa University's Faculty of Liberal Arts and Mori Town collaborated on a regional revitalization project, "Tamagawa University x Mori Town Exchange Project 2026." Seventeen students and three faculty members from the university visited the area and deepened their interaction with the children of Mori Town through an experiential program themed around "wood," which was planned primarily by the students, with the aim of promoting environmental education and regional revitalization.
