Earth Pharmaceutical has decided to start a joint research project to restore flood-damaged homes by applying its innovative oxidation control technology to remove mold, and has signed a contract with Akita Prefectural University and the Japan Disinfection and Deodorization Service Association.
The foundation of this joint research is Earth Pharmaceutical's innovative oxidation control technology. This technology generates the necessary amount of bactericidal components (aqueous radicals) from chlorite ions when needed, inactivating viruses and removing bacteria. The bactericidal components in water or sprayed water droplets react with viruses and bacteria to remove them.
Developed by Osaka University and others, and commercialized by Earth Pharmaceutical and cosmetics company Mandom, it is being called the "third type of disinfectant" after alcohol and chlorine. Research results from Nara Medical University have shown that spraying products containing the antibacterial ingredient has a 99.9% removal rate against common bacteria.
The joint research aims to utilize this antibacterial component to combat mold in homes flooded by torrential rains and typhoons. Earth Pharmaceutical will provide instructions on how to use the chemical, the Faculty of Systems Science and Technology at Akita Prefectural University will verify its effectiveness in flooded homes where restoration work has been carried out, and the Japan Disinfection and Deodorization Service Association will be responsible for the restoration work on the flooded homes.
In recent years, with the frequent occurrence of torrential rains and large typhoons in Japan, mold growth caused by residual moisture in flooded homes is leading to serious secondary damage. Therefore, companies like Earth Pharmaceutical are developing a technology to restore flooded homes by applying innovative oxidation control technology to remove mold.
