Based on a comprehensive memorandum of understanding signed with Keio University in February 2026, Notion Labs Japan LLC has jointly launched the university-wide deployment of Notion* as a common platform for Keio's "AI Campus Concept." The two parties have formed a joint team and are working together on everything from platform design and training to the construction of the faculty and staff portal. In May 2026, the usage environment was rolled out to all faculty and staff (approximately 11000 people), including part-time staff, and in the last 90 days, approximately 80% of users have utilized Notion AI. The transition to AI-native university management, where humans and AI collaborate, has begun.
This initiative is not a simple case of providing software and entrusting its implementation to Keio University. Instead, a joint team has been formed between Keio University staff and Notion's implementation support team (professional services). They have been regularly coordinating their strategies, working together on infrastructure design, joint development of training programs, and support for departmental deployment. The faculty and staff portal is also being built with the cooperation of this team, with joint considerations being made regarding the design of the information structure, migration policies from existing systems, and knowledge organization in a format easily accessible to AI. As this is an area with limited precedents among Japanese universities, the project is being advanced by combining Keio University's practical knowledge of university management with Notion's implementation expertise accumulated through implementation support both domestically and internationally, and by repeatedly designing and verifying the process.
In the second half of fiscal year 2026, a collaborative environment (team space) will be gradually provided for use by departments and projects. By the end of the year, with the cooperation of Notion's professional services, the faculty and staff portal will be migrated to Notion, consolidating campus news, knowledge, regulations, and procedures. For students, the use of AI in learning and creative environments will be explored in stages, aiming for responsible use of AI and the cultivation of practical knowledge. In addition, based on the "sharing of results and best practices domestically and internationally" stated in the MOU, both parties will disseminate the operational know-how and publicly available templates obtained through this joint development to educational institutions both domestically and internationally.
Kohei Ito, President of Keio University, commented, "Keio University views AI not merely as a means of increasing efficiency, but as an intellectual foundation for faculty, staff, students, and researchers to share knowledge and create new value. Through our collaboration with Notion, we will build an environment where necessary information can be accessed more quickly and naturally, and organizational knowledge can be used to drive future activities."
*Notion is a workspace where teams and AI agents work together. By bringing together knowledge, projects, and AI tools in one place, it helps teams find the information they need, organize their work, and streamline their daily tasks. The AI agent supports a variety of tasks, such as organizing action items from meeting minutes, searching for necessary information, managing tasks, launching projects, and organizing inboxes. It can be flexibly customized to suit the size and work style of the team, and can be used by individuals and entire companies alike.
