The Japan Association of National Universities held a seminar on the theme of IR (Institutional Research) strategy at national universities at the Academic Center in Tokyo.About 250 university officials from all over the country gathered for the purpose of deepening the understanding of the IR strategy of national universities by the executives involved in the management of national university corporations.

At the seminar, following the greetings by Masato Kitani, Managing Director of the National University, Reiko Yamada, Professor of the Faculty of Sociology, Doshisha University, and Masayuki Kobayashi, Professor of the Center for Comprehensive Education and Research, the University of Tokyo, gave lectures.
Professor Yamada pointed out that while academic IR centered on learning outcome analysis is the mainstream in the United States and is in an independent development stage, Japan is still in a heteronomous stage.Regarding research IR, while the decentralized type in which each department is responsible is the mainstream in the United States, centralized efforts are progressing in Japan, and it is necessary to change the mindset of the executive department and cooperate with the IR field and other organizations. bottom.
Professor Kobayashi pointed out that as IR expands from mere data collection to strategic planning, each university should redefine IR according to its own circumstances, and its organization should be decided for each university.
After that, four panelists, including Hiroshi Yoshitake, a professor of business science at the University of Tsukuba, and Hiroshi Yoshimi, general manager of the IR Office of Hokkaido University, presented and exchanged opinions.

University IR refers to functions and departments that investigate and analyze information, and by centrally collecting information, it facilitates planning and decision-making, while providing information internally and externally as necessary.
