Based on the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Law, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, in order to subsidize academic research, provide funds for training researchers, promote international exchanges related to science, and carry out other projects related to the promotion of science, October 2003. An independent administrative agency under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, which was established on the 10st of March, and is the only fund allocation organization responsible for academic promotion in Japan.

The Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research "Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research" conducted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science is conducted for the purpose of promoting academic research. From the professional point of view of the selected judges, the first stage examination (written examination) and the second stage examination (council examination) are carried out in two stages.

In order to improve the "quality of examination", which is very important in this allocation examination, the examination is verified every year after the examination of Kakenhi, and the result is reflected in the selection of the examination committee in the following year.Furthermore, based on the verification results, the 2st stage examination committee members who gave meaningful examination opinions to the 1nd stage examination will be selected and commended.

In FY2016, 5,700 people, including Professor Yoko Aoki of Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine and Professor Takashi Ariga of Waseda University Faculty of Science and Engineering, were selected from the approximately 1 first-stage judges and commended. In addition, the examination opinions that are meaningful for the 268nd stage examination will be reflected in the guidance for the 2st stage examination in 2017, and will be utilized when the 1st stage examination committee conducts the examination.

At the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, if it becomes possible for each research institution to be positively evaluated for being involved in the examination of competitive funds as a researcher, fellow researchers and experts in the same field will examine and verify it. We believe that it will improve the quality of "reviews" and improve the overall research funding system in Japan.
