On January 2017, 1, the presidents and presidents of Tohoku University, the University of Tokyo, University of Tsukuba, and Nippon Medical School held a joint press conference and announced the formation of a consortium for anti-doping research. In preparation for the 18 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, we aim to develop new testing methods that are effective, efficient, and reduce the mental and physical burden on athletes by utilizing cutting-edge medical research.
Doping is the illegal use of drugs that increase competitiveness. To eradicate this, various efforts such as education / enlightenment activities, research and development activities, and international collaboration activities are being promoted worldwide. However, in recent years, the sophistication of doping has progressed, and effective and efficient doping detection methods that utilize the results of cutting-edge medical research and technologies such as microanalysis and the mental and physical burden on athletes are small. Development of doping tests is required.
Although some Europe and the United States are leading the way in anti-doping technology research, the Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization (Tohoku University) has accumulated research achievements and analysis technology in the field of doping research in Japan, and each of the three universities has accumulated research results and analysis technology. Has a research record that makes the best use of its characteristics. Therefore, in order to lead anti-doping technology research toward 3, four universities with a proven track record in the field of doping research will collaborate to establish a consortium.
The consortium aims to develop a test method adopted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) while organically collaborating with other universities and research institutes on resources such as knowledge and human resources.
