Following the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's postponement of the introduction of English private exams and descriptive questions into the Common Test for University Admissions, the Japan Association of National Universities revised the basic policy of the national university admissions selection system, as well as the English private exams and descriptive formulas. The guidelines for problem utilization have been abolished.
According to the Japan Association of National Universities, the revision of the basic policy has sorted out the parts that were not introduced. The entrance examination policy for 2024 and beyond, which corresponds to the new course of study, will be announced again.
The introduction of English private exams and descriptive questions in the common test for university admissions was set out as the centerpiece of university entrance exam reform, and it was planned to introduce it from the 2021 entrance exam, but the English private exam was pointed out to correct regional disparities and household economic disparities. It became a problem. In addition, descriptive questions were postponed after 2025 because there was no way to accurately score a large number of answers in a short period of time.
After that, as a result of examining the verification of the problem and the possibility of introduction at the expert meeting of the Ministry of Education, it was judged that it was difficult to introduce both the English private examination and the descriptive question, and it was officially decided to postpone it.The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has announced that it will abandon the introduction and will switch the common test from the current 6 subjects in 30 subjects to 7 subjects in 21 subjects including "Information I" in line with the reorganization of subjects and subjects in the new course of study.
