Hamamatsu University School of Medicine and Suzuki Co., Ltd. will collaborate with Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture to start "Relationship between daily driving behavior characteristics and cognitive function in elderly drivers: prospective cohort study".
It is widely known that various cognitive functions, such as attention and memory, that people need to drive a car properly, decline with age.Studies using driving simulators have also suggested a relationship between driving behavior and cognitive decline. However, little is known about how cognitive decline affects daily driving behavior.
In this demonstration project, by analyzing the relationship between driving data and cognitive function tests, we will clarify what aspects of daily driving behavior are related to cognitive decline. We invited Hamamatsu citizens aged 60 to 75 to participate in a cognitive function test, a brain health check, and a questionnaire on driving a car in advance.Attach a dedicated device for data acquisition to your private car, have it drive as usual for XNUMX months, and cooperate with the questionnaire again. The results of this research may lead to the development of technology for early detection of cognitive decline due to changes in driving behavior in the future.
This demonstration project is part of the "Hamamatsu Wellness Lab," which was established by Hamamatsu City in April 2020 to carry out a social demonstration project that will lead to the prevention of illness and long-term care for citizens and the promotion of health.Currently, we are recruiting Hamamatsu citizens who are 4 to 60 years old and who drive their own cars on a daily basis from October 75 to June 2021 (as soon as the number of applicants reaches 10). Deadline).
