At the Department of Plastic Surgery, Kansai Medical University, a research team of Professor Kenji Kusumoto and Lecturer Natsuko Kakudo has started research on a new breast reconstruction technique using the patient's own adipose stem cells.Currently, we are advancing clinical research.
In the breast reconstruction surgery performed by the research team, first, the patient's own fat such as thighs and abdomen is sucked using a dedicated machine, and the cells that make fat and blood vessels (adipose stem cells) are extracted and concentrated. Then, a mixture with the sucked fat is injected into the affected area. The feature is that scars are less noticeable because the breast can be reconstructed without making a large incision in the skin.
The new reconstruction technique promoted by the research team is more likely to settle fat than the conventional method of injecting only fat.It can also be applied to the reconstruction of partially depressed breasts.Reconstruction of a partially depressed breast was difficult with conventional methods, so the research team's clinical trials are expected to greatly contribute to improving the QOL of patients.
Kansai Medical University is looking for patients who wish to participate in this clinical study. This reconstruction is not covered by insurance, but since the research funds for clinical trials will be used, the patients themselves will not be burdened with the treatment costs, and 5 people will be invited to participate. For inquiries regarding participation in clinical trials, please contact the Clinical Research Support Center of Kansai Medical University.
