In February 2021, the University of Occupational and Environmental Health launched a crowdfunding business called "How to spend until the surgery day for many patients waiting for cancer surgery" and achieved the target amount. As a result, we created a guidebook and a video about "pre-habilitation", which is a preparation for patients who are about to undergo cancer surgery to start preoperatively.

Many patients who have been notified of cancer remain mentally depressed from shock for some time, have less opportunity to go out and move, and lose their appetite. For this reason, it is said that there may be a vicious cycle in which nutritional status worsens and physical strength deteriorates before surgery. It has also been found that postoperative complications increase and the risk of death increases if the patient is poorly nourished, weakened or muscular at the time of surgery.

In order to avoid such a situation, the importance of starting rehabilitation before surgery has attracted attention, and it is being introduced to the medical field mainly in Europe and the United States. In fact, many studies abroad have shown that comprehensive rehabilitation, including exercise, before surgery reduces the risk of surgical complications and allows patients to recover early. ..This rehabilitation that begins before surgery is called prehabilitation, which originally started in the field of orthopedics, but has recently been increasingly applied to cancer surgery.

In the guidebook and video created this time, for patients who are refraining from cancer surgery, in addition to the menu and necessity of prehabilitation, diet therapy to improve nutritional status, mental care to reduce anxiety, pre-cancer surgery It introduces what to do and how the family responds to patients who are about to undergo cancer surgery.

The University of Occupational and Environmental Health will help patients who have been anxious because of these cancers to recover from shock as soon as possible and to be as positive as possible in their own preparations until the day of surgery. It is open to the public on the homepage.
