Josai University invited people from Saitama Prefecture and Sakado City to hold a symposium on disaster prevention and mitigation on November 2021, 11 at Seiko Hall.Sponsored by Josai University and Josai Junior College, sponsored by Saitama Tojo Regional University Education Platform (TJUP).

 This is the first time that Josai University has held a regional alliances symposium. Since the typhoon in 2019 caused great damage around the university, the event was held under the theme of "Actual conditions of natural disasters facing Saitama Prefecture and disaster prevention and mitigation measures of local governments".

 At the symposium, in addition to the keynote speech "Always prepare with a sense of crisis" by Deputy Governor Masamichi Hashimoto, who is in charge of crisis management, "The actual situation of ground disasters caused by earthquakes and heavy rains" by Professor Emeritus Susumu Yasuda of Tokyo Denki University, Professor Norio Tanaka of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Saitama University gave a keynote speech entitled "Characteristics of recent flood damage and perspectives for basin flood control".

 In the keynote speech, Vice Governor Hashimoto touched on possible earthquakes with a seismic intensity of 6 or higher and super typhoons in Saitama Prefecture, introduced the prefecture's hard and soft disaster prevention measures, and emphasized the importance of preparing.Professor Emeritus Yasuda pointed out that "risk communication between the government and residents / businesses is important", saying that "the measures against liquefaction of detached houses are delayed" in relation to liquefaction.Professor Tanaka emphasized that there was a disaster mitigation system from Edo to the Meiji era, but it is important to reconstruct disaster mitigation measures now. We introduced three perspectives to reduce disasters.

 In the panel discussion on the theme of "How should the municipal administration respond to disaster prevention and mitigation?", We exchanged opinions with the administration and discussed the direction of future disaster prevention measures and policies.The symposium was also distributed at satellite venues within the university and online.
