In March 2017, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology subsidized 3 million yen for a survey by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention in a snowfall accident that killed seven students and one leading teacher during a mountain climbing training in Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture. I decided to do it.The aim is to elucidate the mechanism of avalanche occurrence and the flow path, and utilize it for future avalanche countermeasures.
According to the Ministry of Education, the survey was conducted by Isao Ueishi, Director of the Snow and Ice Disaster Prevention Research Center, Meteorological Research Institute, Meteorological Research Institute, Forestry Research Institute, Hokkaido University of Education, Tohoku University, Kyoto University, There are 11 researchers from a total of 31 institutions such as Nihon University.
His specialty covers a wide range of fields such as snow and ice meteorology, disaster science, and slope conservation, and he is expected to approach from various aspects.
In addition to the field survey, the research team will proceed with shooting from the sky with a drone, collecting topographical information, area analysis of snowfall conditions, analysis of avalanche accumulation conditions, etc., and elucidate the actual situation of this avalanche.
Furthermore, while estimating the damage range using avalanche simulation, we have developed a snow-covered alteration model that can handle avalanches caused by low-pressure snowfall, and prototyped a real hazard map for avalanche occurrence in mountainous areas to generate avalanches in the future. We will consider issues for prevention and present solutions.
The obtained data and knowledge will be compiled and published as a proposal for avalanche countermeasures nationwide.
