On April 2017, 4, Kokugakuin University opened the first "Book Tree" of "Michinokichi", an original bookshelf and reading space produced by Yoshitaka Haba, a book director.Located on the 18st floor of the University Academic Media Center (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), it is open to the community free of charge.

 "Michinokichi" is a "experience" in which Kokugakuin University, whose slogan is "more Japan. More to the world." Was born as part of the "Michinokichi-Kokugakuin Book Project" (started in April 2016).This time, as the first step, we opened the bookshelf "Book Tree" designed in the open space (4-1-1 Higashi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) on the 4st floor of the Academic Media Center.

 The name "Michinokichi" is (3) a base that changes the unknown into the known, (XNUMX) a base that confronts the lost life (way), and (XNUMX) a base that has books that can be witty conversations and become adults. It was named with one meaning and wish.

 The selection of books to be placed in the "Book Tree" that will open this time will be a lineup that is easy to pick up while linking with the specialty of the university, so book director Yoshitaka Haba worked on "eating" and "unknown". Approximately 5 books, from new books to photo books and manga, are lined up, centered on five themes such as "To a place to be."

 The space was designed by Makoto Tanijiri, and the design makes it feel like you're digging into a tree, so you can enjoy books in a world different from the outside.In the space, not only can you read quietly by yourself, but you can also eat and drink, so you can use it in various ways depending on the user, such as using it as a communication space for multiple people.

 The usage time is from 9:00 to 20:00 from Monday to Saturday.Books can only be viewed and not rented, but will be open to the community for free.In addition, it is said that the second edition, which will be a larger space, is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2017.
