Mukogawa Women's University has released some of the survey results on "nail biting habits" with Irodori Co., Ltd.
"Kamupita" is a bitter manicure that supports the correction of nail biting and finger sucking habits. From the launch in 2016 to October 2021, 10, it has become a popular product with sales of 28 units on a shipping basis.
At the Faculty of Business Administration of Mukogawa Women's University, we are conducting practical learning to work on problem solving in collaboration with companies. From April to July 2021, 4 second-year students worked on improving products and developing products to prevent nail biting habits for adults, using this "Kamupita" as a theme.Among them, a survey on "nail biting habits" was conducted from June 7 to 2, 10, and 2021 samples of men and women aged 6 to 1 years were collected.
As a result of the survey, 23.3% of the respondents said that they had a habit of biting their nails in the past and 7.6% said that they still have it, and about 3 in 1 responded that they had the experience of biting their nails in the past and present. The most common onset of nail biting was "before entering elementary school" at 45.2%, followed by "lower grades of elementary school" at 23.7%, "don't remember" at 20.0%, and "upper grades at elementary school" at 8.1%.3.0% of people started after adulthood.
About half of the time when the nail biting habit was healed was 14.6% before entering elementary school, 16.9% in the lower grades of elementary school, and 16.2% in the upper grades of elementary school. The results were "after adulthood" 18.5% and "not yet cured" 9.2%.
"I don't know" 39.4% and "unconscious" 15.9% accounted for more than half of the reasons why they started biting their nails, and "stress" 21.8% and "worried about nail hangnail" 13.5% gave clear reasons. "I haven't had it on hand" was 7.6%.
As for measures against nail biting habits, 29.5% said they did nothing in particular and 18.6% said they would put up with it, indicating that nearly half did not take any measures, but on the other hand, they applied nail polish or spicy food to their nails 21.3. %, "Keep your nails short" 16.4%, and other measures such as "sticking plasters", "putting gum in your mouth", and "wearing a mask" were found.
From the survey results, the students noted that men had little countermeasures against nail biting habits and that females had more nail biting habits and tended to be worried about their nails.Considering that there is a need for sheet-type products for men and stick-type products for women, we proposed it to Irodori and received high praise.
