Yokohama National University and the Ocean Research and Development Organization have announced the results of joint research on temperature changes associated with the renovation work of "Grand Mall Park (in front of the Art Square)" in the "Minato Mirai 21" district of Yokohama City.Numerical simulation analysis showed that the sea breeze from Yokohama Port was not strongly warmed on the ground surface due to the increase in the number of trees in the park and the installation of water-retaining pavement, and it spread to the park in a relatively cool state. ..The average temperature in the park after the renovation is said to be about 0.6 ° C to 0.7 ° C lower than before the renovation.

It has been difficult to strictly verify the effect of the change in the shape of the block because it is affected by the meteorological conditions by the comparison method based on the local meteorological observation that has been generally performed so far.On the other hand, in the numerical simulation, the thermal environment under the same meteorological conditions can be reproduced in the computer, and the change in temperature before and after the construction that cannot be actually measured and the thermal environment in the virtual block can be known. In this study, it was also confirmed that the calculated results and the actual meteorological observation results after the renovation are in good agreement.

The warming of cities due to global warming and the heat island phenomenon has become a problem in many areas. In solving such heat problems, we will proceed with proposals for area management based on the usefulness of the simulation technology shown by this result and the effectiveness of the use of sea breeze in cities facing the sea.
