Kyushu University and Kyushu Institute of Technology have started a joint program of satellite education to develop core human resources for innovative space science and engineering missions.Approximately 50 students are engaged in full-scale activities such as starting regular exchanges through video conferences.

According to Kyushu University, 18 students from Kyushu University and 31 students from Kyushu Institute of Technology participated in the program. We will develop a 2U size (10 cm x 10 cm x 20 cm) microsatellite, which we aim to complete by the end of 2023.

Students at Kyushu Institute of Technology are in charge of developing the core of the satellite, and students at Kyushu University are in charge of developing mission systems such as observation aircraft mounted on the satellite.Through the development of satellites, the aim is to develop human resources who can lead international programs by planning innovative space development missions with flexible ideas in the future.

Kyushu University's science students and Kyushu Institute of Technology's engineering students cooperate in satellite development beyond the boundaries of the university, and the teachers in charge of both schools teach not only their own school but also students from other schools. It is an educational program that can complement each other in science and engineering.

In satellite education in Japan, the use of microsatellite is less than in Europe and the United States, and there are few opportunities for science students to be involved in satellite development in the lower grades and engineering students who study satellite engineering are less likely to come into contact with scientific issues. I have had the problem. Therefore, Kyushu Institute of Technology, which has a track record in the development of microsatellite, and Kyushu University, which has produced results in space science research and education, have decided to form a scrum.
