According to a survey by Nobuyuki Hotta, director of the Chemotherapy Center, Yokohama City University Hospital, the number of cancer resections in Japan decreased significantly in 2020, when the new coronavirus infection became a pandemic worldwide. The result suggests that the diagnosis of cancer may not have been made properly due to the influence of the corona sickness, and it was published in the international academic journal "European Journal of Cancer".

According to Yokohama City University, a research group led by Director Hotta analyzed in-hospital cancer registration data that covers 7% of cancer patients nationwide, and has a large number of Japanese patients with gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, and colon of the colon. We investigated the number of diagnosed and resected patients with cancer, rectal cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and cervical cancer.

The number of excisions was 14.1% for gastric cancer, 12.6% for esophageal cancer, 9.2% for colon cancer of the large intestine, 9.3% for rectal cancer, 10% for non-small cell lung cancer, 9% for breast cancer, 10.9% for prostate cancer, and offspring. There was a 12.1% decrease in cervical cancer.
The research group estimates that the deterioration of access to medical institutions due to the corona sickness, the discontinuation of medical examinations, and the refraining from receiving medical examinations have affected the effects, and it is estimated that about 2 people have lost the opportunity for resection treatment.
