According to the University of Tsukuba, the recruitment began under the name of Tsutomu Hiroyama Ekiden on the site of "Lady for", a crowdfunding management company that has a business alliance with the University of Tsukuba.

The University of Tsukuba was once a regular school in the Hakone Ekiden, boasting a total of 62 appearances, and its predecessor, Tokyo Higher Normal School, won the first tournament. However, recently he has not been able to break through the qualifying and has been away from the finals for about 1 years.
