The Chubu Branch of the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) and Nagoya Institute of Technology have started joint research to identify the causes of the increase or decrease in product accidents by utilizing the database of more than 6 product accident information. The knowledge and experience gained from the joint research will be utilized in future NITE work.
According to NITE, the joint research aims to statistically analyze a wide range of product accident data possessed by NITE and build a mathematical model of the tendency of product accidents to occur. If NITE can build a mathematical model, it will be possible to identify the cause of the increase or decrease in product accidents, effectively reduce product accidents, and predict the tendency of product accidents to occur. It is said that the construction will proceed more efficiently. At the same time, we expect that the data analysis capabilities of NITE as a whole will be improved and that the sophistication of information provision to the public will be realized. For this reason, we entered into joint research with Associate Professor Hironobu Kawamura of the Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology, which has a proven track record in the field of data science.
NITE is an incorporated administrative agency established for the purpose of reducing the risks involved in the technologies used in society. It collects information on product accidents that have occurred nationwide based on the Consumer Product Safety Law, and has one of the largest databases in Japan in this field.
