The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has announced the award winners of the "10th Marine Nation Promotion Meritorious Persons Award" (Prime Minister's Award), which honors those who have made achievements in a wide range of fields related to the ocean.

 Mr. Toshitaka Gamo of the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo, who challenged the mystery of the deep sea in the science and technology promotion section in the field of "significant achievements related to the ocean" and was evaluated for his research on the future of the ocean, and the coral reef in the natural environment conservation section. Makoto Tsuchiya of Ryukyu University was awarded for his efforts to realize a society that coexists with the ecosystem.
In addition, "Iwate Prefectural Taneichi High School" was awarded in the field of "Special Achievements in Promoting Japan as a Marine Nation". Inheriting the "Southern Moguri", the contribution to marine development by training divers was highly evaluated.
