The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has announced the award winners of the "10th Marine Nation Promotion Meritorious Persons Award" (Prime Minister's Award), which honors those who have made achievements in a wide range of fields related to the ocean.
Mr. Toshitaka Gamo of the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo, who challenged the mystery of the deep sea in the science and technology promotion section in the field of "significant achievements related to the ocean" and was evaluated for his research on the future of the ocean, and the coral reef in the natural environment conservation section. Makoto Tsuchiya of Ryukyu University was awarded for his efforts to realize a society that coexists with the ecosystem.
In addition, "Iwate Prefectural Taneichi High School" was awarded in the field of "Special Achievements in Promoting Japan as a Marine Nation". Inheriting the "Southern Moguri", the contribution to marine development by training divers was highly evaluated.
The "Award for Meritorious Persons for Promotion of Marine Nation" has been held since 2008, and this is the 10th time.By commending individuals and groups who have made outstanding achievements in science and technology, fisheries, maritime affairs, environment, and other fields related to the ocean, academic / research, and industrial promotion, and by widely introducing them in recognition of their achievements, the Japanese people It is an opportunity to foster understanding and interest in the ocean.The implementing ministries and agencies will be implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of the Environment with the cooperation of the Cabinet Office General Ocean Policy Promotion Secretariat.
The award for the achievement of marine nation promotion is to commend 4 people and 4 groups in the field of "special achievements in promoting Japan as a marine nation" and 1 person in each category of science and technology promotion, fisheries promotion, maritime affairs, and natural environment conservation. It is divided into the fields of "significant achievements regarding the ocean".
