The Japan Science and Technology Agency has newly established the Flapping Female Researcher Award (Maria Squadovska-Curie Award) to commend young female researchers who are expected to be active internationally, and the highest award is given by the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Kyoto University. I chose Assistant Professor Mayuko Yamashita.

 According to the Japan Science and Technology Agency, the Flapping Female Researcher Award was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics and the Chemistry Award for the research on radiation achieved by Polish female scientist Dr. Maria Squadovska-Curie in her early 30s. It was founded together with the Polish Embassy in Japan.

 Following the highest award, the Encouragement Award is a special award that is recognized as equivalent to the Encouragement Award, Mariko Kimura, Research Fellow of the Pioneering Research Headquarters, RIKEN, Kayoko Shioda, Research Fellow of the Graduate School of Public Health, Emory University, USA. Marie Saito of the Center for Integrated Genetics, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Norwegian University of Life Sciences was selected.The highest award will be given a prize of 50 yen, the travel to Poland, accommodation expenses, the incentive award will be given a prize of 25 yen, and the special prize will be given a prize of 10 yen.

 The active participation of young female researchers is indispensable for the creation of science and technology innovation, but while women in their late 20s and early 30s are most expected to be active, women have overlapping life events such as childbirth.For this reason, we have decided to set up a new award to support the activities of young female researchers more than ever.
