Kogakuin University Solar Team, a student project of Kogakuin University (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), participated in the "2017 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge" held in Australia from October 10 to 8, 15, in Australia. Completed 2017km of desert area over 3,021 days.He finished 6th in the Challenger class, which is the crown class of the tournament.
The team that participated in the race for the third time in this tournament completed the race despite the effects of accidents and bad weather during the race. In the previous tournament in 3, he left a runner-up in the cruiser class that emphasizes practicality, and this time he entered the challenger class, which is a crown class that emphasizes speed. This was my second challenge since the 2015 tournament. He finished 2013th in a situation where his performance in the tournament was inferior to that of the top teams.
In this project, students make the best use of the faculty and facilities that are the research resources of the university, and produce the competition vehicle Wing (Unit 50) while receiving cutting-edge materials and technology from about 4 support companies. The innovative design and high technology of the new vehicle have been highly evaluated by teams and referees from all over the world. In addition, students took the initiative in all races such as drivers, vehicle maintenance, camping, and media support.
Associate Professor Hiroto Hamane (Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering), the director of the solar team, said, "I was able to overcome difficulties with the students and finish the race safely while solving a number of problems. Due to bad weather, I was able to finish the race several times on the way. In the situation of zero, there was a scene where I ran only with the solar panel, and I realized the strictness of renewable energy again. I am proud that the students solved the problems in front of me one by one and completed it to the end. I think, "he recalled this tournament.
The World Championships Participation Report Meeting will be held on October 2017, 10 (Monday) from 23:14 to 00:15 at the Shinjuku Campus.
