TAKEO Co., Ltd., which is engaged in research on food use of migratory locust, started trial sales of "Migratory locust senbei" on June 2022, 6 in collaboration with Hirosaki University.

Since August 2020, Assistant Professor Ryohei Kanbara of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Hirosaki University has been in charge of the development of production technology for Tonosamabatta, and TAKEO has been in charge of the demonstration experiment and the development of Tonosamabatta foods. In the second year of joint research, the development of migratory locust aquaculture technology has begun to take off, and it is now in the stage of looking ahead to a leap forward.

The appeal of migratory locust as food is that it does not require a large amount of protein for food like crickets, and it can grow only on grasses such as grasses. The grass can be cultivated in the same way as pasture, but weeds that are universally present in nature can be used. The taste is a combination of the refreshing aroma of grass and shrimp, giving it a unique taste, and when roasted, it has a fragrant flavor like tea or seaweed.

This time, as a product form that anyone can easily pick up, we have developed a rice cracker that is kneaded with powdered migratory locust, and its name is "Migratory locust rice cracker".

In the development, students from various specialized fields of Hirosaki University cooperated and repeated examinations through tasting sessions, and commercialized it at the Taiseidou Senbei store in Aomori prefecture. There are only three ingredients: flour, migratory locust, and salt. The flour is "Nebarigoshi" from Aomori Prefecture, the migratory locust is Migratory locust grown by TAKEO in "Mushihata *" in Kanagawa Prefecture based on the technology of Hirosaki University, and the salt is seawater salt from Okinawa. It is a natural rice cracker with an extremely simple material, a refreshing pasture-like scent of migratory locust, and a slight scent of shrimp-like umami and fragrance.

"Migratory locust rice cracker (4 pieces)" is 390 yen (tax included).Limited quantity is sold at TAKEO's online shop.

* In "Mushihata", we are working on the cultivation of Tonosamabatta as an agriculture in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and we carefully bred it by hand by combining pesticide-free pasture and naturally collected grasses.
