Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (Ritsumeikan APU), which was looking for a new president through open recruitment, chose Lifenet Life's founder Haruaki Deguchi (4) as the fourth new president. According to Ritsumeikan APU, Mr. Deguchi was born in 1948 in Mie Prefecture.After graduating from the Faculty of Law at Kyoto University, he joined Nippon Life Insurance Association of Japan, where he was instrumental in reforming the financial system and amending the Insurance Business Law as the first chairman of the Life Insurance Association of Japan. After serving as an advisor to the President's Office of the University of Tokyo from 2005, he founded Lifenet Life, an independent life insurance company for the first time in 2008 years in Japan.
He was the president and chairman of Lifenet Insurance Company.It attracted attention for insurance sales on the Internet and was listed on the TSE Mothers for the first time as an online life insurance company, but retired as chairman in June 2017.
Ritsumeikan APU opened in 2000 in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture.It accepts students from more than 140 countries around the world, and half of the students are international students.Since the term of office of the current President Shun Korenaga will expire at the end of December, a committee for selecting candidates for the president, which is made up of faculty members, staff, and graduates, has been set up and open to the public.As a result of interviewing and examining about 12 candidates including self-recommendations and other recommendations, Mr. Deguchi was selected after evaluating his management skills and ability to communicate.
Mr. Deguchi also serves as the vice president of Ritsumeikan, a school corporation that manages Ritsumeikan APU.Mr. Deguchi has announced a comment that "I want to evolve Ritsumeikan APU into a university that can solve the problems of the global society."
