According to a domestic survey by Dr. Atsushi Hamano of the University of Tsukuba Medical School, the number of patients who want to reach the end of their lives at home or want home medical care is increasing due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection. rice field. It seems that restrictions on visits during hospitalization are the trigger for requesting home medical care, and the results are common throughout the country regardless of the population of the area where the medical institution is located or the number of doctors at the medical institution.

In August 2021, Dr. Hamano and his colleagues conducted a web questionnaire on changes in the number of home-based patients and their intentions regarding home-based medical care for patients and their families, targeting directors and managers of 8 medical institutions in Japan who are conducting home-visit medical care. Was conducted, and the voices of 37 medical institutions that responded were analyzed.

According to the report, 74.2% answered that "the number of patients who reach the end of their lives at home has increased" and 71.0% answered that "the number of patients who wish to have new home visits has increased" compared to before the epidemic of the new corona. As for the reason for wanting home medical care, 93.5% answered that "there are restrictions on visits during hospitalization."

This study is the first case in Japan to analyze changes in home medical care usage compared to before the new corona epidemic.Since there was no regional difference in the content of the answers, Dr. Hamano thinks that it is a general tendency in Japan.

For this reason, it is said that support for medical professionals who support patients who desire home-visit medical care and improvement of visitation restriction operation during hospitalization will be issues for future study.
