Hiroshima University Hospital has produced educational VR teaching materials for medical students to learn about infectious disease countermeasures, and verified that they can master infectious disease countermeasures more than conventional teaching materials in demonstration classes.

According to Hiroshima University, VR teaching materials are content for students studying medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, and rehabilitation, and we commissioned VR content production company Jolly Good to shoot and edit. Bacteria and viruses are added to the on-site video taken with a 360-degree camera using CG to allow the risk of infectious diseases to be experienced from the perspectives of both medical staff and patients.

Bacteria and viruses to learn countermeasures are methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and new coronavirus. We are considering measures in various situations such as dental practice, rehabilitation, and preparation of anticancer drugs.

Forty-two students from the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Hiroshima University were divided into a group that uses this VR teaching material and a group that learns in conventional lecture-type lessons. It turned out that the measures were implemented more correctly than the students.

Hiroshima University has decided that VR teaching materials will be useful and will actively incorporate them into future infection control measures.
