Tohoku University and NEC have conducted a demonstration experiment to realize an educational digital ID that utilizes the Individual Number Card, with the aim of transforming education by promoting DX (Digital Transformation).
In the priority plan for the realization of a digital society, the government has stipulated that national universities should implement a model project to improve administrative efficiency by utilizing My Number cards and reflect it in the medium-term goals and plans.Under these circumstances, NEC is planning and promoting an educational digital ID concept (patent pending) that uses My Number cards for personal authentication in order to use educational data safely and securely.
On the other hand, Tohoku University will lead a new form of university in the new normal era, and in anticipation of providing a place where students, faculty and staff can devote themselves to their studies, education and research activities more than ever, "Declaration of Online Administration". gone.In order to realize this, we will implement measures such as "business DX" that promotes window-free, seal-free, and work place-free, the introduction of a score notification system for undergraduate entrance examinations, and classes that effectively combine face-to-face and online classes. We are implementing “educational DX” and reforming university management by promoting DX.
At the same time, under the “Connected University Strategy”, one of the main measures, “Reform of university management,” is promoting the sophistication of university management through the use of data. We aim to realize a digital system that connects with a common ID and provides a consistent real experience according to each person's actions and situations.
As the goals of both parties coincided, in May 2022, a demonstration experiment was conducted for Tohoku University staff to verify the effectiveness of the education digital ID concept. In the demonstration experiment, we performed the issuance of digital student IDs linked to educational digital IDs, verification of student identity verification at counters, attendance management during classes in classrooms, and personal authentication using face recognition.
