The Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering, Waseda University announces that a Net Zero Energy House (ZEH), which achieves virtually zero annual energy consumption through improved insulation performance, energy saving, and energy creation, will be able to evacuate at home during power outages in the summer. It was clarified through verification by Kanta Amada, a graduate student of , Kim Jeong-min, a junior researcher at the Institute of Science and Engineering, Professor Shinichi Tanabe of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Asahi Kasei Homes.

According to Waseda University, the research group built a two-story steel-framed 4.62-square-meter ZEH experimental house in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, equipped with a solar power generator with an output of 5.6 kilowatts and a storage battery with a capacity of 2 kilowatt hours, and the power was out for 46 hours. Assumed, we operated air conditioners, refrigerators, LED lighting, TVs, water heaters, etc., and measured the amount of electricity used and the thermal environment during that time.

As a result, it was found that hot water could be supplied from the water heater while the home appliances were being used normally, and that the indoor temperature was maintained at a temperature that would allow the autonomous operation of the air conditioner to avoid heatstroke.

ZEH is certified as a house that achieves virtually zero balance of energy consumption by improving the heat insulation performance of the outer skin, saving energy by using high-efficiency equipment, and creating energy by installing solar power generation. In the 2018th Strategic Energy Plan approved by the Cabinet in 5, the government stated that by 2020 more than half of the custom-built detached houses built by house builders and others will meet the ZEH standard for the average performance value of newly built houses by 2030. We are working hard to spread it with the goal of
