In the three-generation cohort survey conducted by the Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization, more than 7 people have been registered, exceeding the target of 7.3 people. The number of trios (three by children and parents), which is a combination unit of family information, has reached more than 3, and it is expected to have a positive effect on future surveys.
According to Tohoku University, the birth cohort survey tracks a group of children and their families from the prenatal stage for a certain period of time, and examines the relationship between environmental factors such as the damage situation and lifestyle of the Great East Japan Earthquake, genetic factors and diseases. So, the Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization has been implementing it since 2013 in parts of Miyagi and Iwate prefectures.
So far, 3 people, including about 2,000 infants, about 3 parents, about 1,000 grandparents, and about 8,000 great-grandparents, have completed registration. The number of trio groups, including infants and their parents, mothers and their parents, and grandmothers and their parents, has reached 80.If the trio can be investigated together, the possibility of elucidating diseases caused by genetic factors from one parent will increase, and the analysis system will also increase.
According to the survey so far, the smoking rate is higher for parents whose homes were damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, the positive rate for cedar pollen is lower in the Osaki area of Miyagi prefecture, and pregnant women in the four areas of Osaki, Shiroishi, Ishinomaki, and Kesennuma. It became clear that the rate of living with their parents was high.
In the future, we will continue to investigate changes in the growth of children and the health status of their families, and investigate in detail the causal relationship between lifestyle-related diseases, illness, and developmental status.
