Nippon Institute of Technology, which holds many events for children to experience university learning, held "Tochigi City Parent and Child Science School" on October 2022, 10.
"Tochigi City Parents and Children Science School" is an event that invites elementary school students and their parents from Tochigi City to experience manufacturing, visit university facilities, and visit laboratories.It is held to get children interested in science and technology and to let them know about the university. In 2020 and 2021, due to the influence of the new coronavirus, we were forced to postpone or cancel the event on campus, but in 2022, we were able to hold it face-to-face for the first time in three years.
In the morning, Associate Professor Mika Kano and Professor Sugiya Sato from the School of General Education served as lecturers, and held a science class and a hands-on experience of making PET bottle sinks and sinks at the Student Lab.At first, the children were curious as they watched the fish float and sink. .
In the afternoon, we moved to the Industrial Technology Museum. In the steam locomotive ride experience, participants were able to observe the steam locomotive being driven from the driver's seat, and hear the whistle of a real steam locomotive up close.Afterwards, they visited the laboratory of Professor Yuichi Nakazato, Professor Masaru Higuchi, and Associate Professor Kensuke Takita of the Department of Robotics to see next-generation robots.We observed how the robot actually moves and experienced the operation.On the day of the event, a total of 47 parents and children participated and spent the day experiencing the university.Feedback from the participants included comments such as "It was fun" and "I'm glad I was able to have such a valuable experience."
