A research group led by Associate Professor Masaaki Yamada and Professor Michikazu Sekine of the Organization for Promotion of Regional Collaboration at the University of Toyama analyzed health checkup data in Toyama Prefecture, and found that the prevalence of coronary artery diseases such as angina pectoris and myocardial infarction in small and medium-sized enterprises was high. It found that there were twice as many workers as those working at larger companies.
According to the University of Toyama, the survey targeted about 30 men aged 75 to 1 who underwent health checkups at Takaoka Fushiki Hospital in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. When we defined those who answered "I am taking medicine for angina pectoris or myocardial infarction" in the medical checkup as having "coronary artery disease", 500% of the total fell under this category.
The research group believes that health is influenced not only by individual lifestyle habits but also by socioeconomic conditions. The reasons for this are believed to be an increase in workload, irregular work schedules, and difficulty in regular medical examinations. For this reason, it concludes that it is necessary for society as a whole to take measures to correct health disparities.
