Keio University has been selected for the 2022 World Premier International Research Center Initiative by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.The World Premier International Research Center Initiative program started in 2007, but this is the first time that a private university has been selected.

 According to Keio University, the center was selected for research on microbiota (*1) led by Professor Kenya Honda of the Faculty of Medicine.Led by Professor Honda, who is a top leader in intestinal microbiome research, we collect multi-organ analysis data and microbiome data related to human disease, development, aging, etc., and then analyze the data using artificial intelligence and quantum computers. We plan to develop a new life science that will speed up and advance our understanding of the internal mechanisms involved in maintaining health.

 The World Premier International Research Center Initiative Program Committee screened the plans of 2022 institutions that applied for 16, and in addition to Keio University, Osaka University and Hiroshima University were selected.Committee Chairman Michinari Hamaguchi (Director of the Center for Advanced Research and Development Strategy, Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development) said, "This is the first time that a private university has been adopted as a base, and the diversity of the program has expanded. We will support the selected base to become the world's top level. I want to," he commented.

 The World Premier International Research Center Program started in 2007, and so far 14 research centers, such as universities, have been selected.
