Ritsumeikan University has introduced a comprehensive selection that incorporates the “Faculty Designated Unit AI Learning Program (commonly known as the UNITE Program)” into the application requirements, in which the designated units that are particularly important in each faculty are studied and mastered with the AI teaching material “atama +”. 2023 successful applicants were announced on November 11nd. The entrance exam using "atama+" is the first in Japan.

The purpose of this entrance examination is to ensure that students acquire the basic academic skills that are important for improving the quality of learning after admission, in a comprehensive selection that does not require academic examinations.By subdividing the subjects that are particularly important in undergraduate studies up to the unit level and incorporating learning and learning with "atama +" into the application requirements, anyone can take on the challenge regardless of the subjects they have learned in high school. can do.In addition, students should have a concrete image of how their studies up to high school will be related to their studies at university, learn effectively through this program, and develop high motivation and academic ability to connect to their studies after entering university. can be expected.

According to Ritsumeikan University, 36 students from 227 prefectures nationwide took part in the program this time, which is much more than double the initial expectations.Since 2% of the total number of students are in high school types other than regular courses (full-time, credit-based) such as correspondence and IB schools, by making the acquisition of designated units rather than academic history the qualification for application, we are able to diversify. It can be evaluated as providing opportunities for students with diverse learning backgrounds.

In addition, as a result of analyzing the learning data of the students' "atama +", 90% of the students who completed the designated unit required continuous study of 10 days or more to complete the designated unit. (You can take the exam as many times as you want during the period). In this way, the program requires a certain amount of learning to complete, but we were able to confirm that the students had a high level of motivation to learn, as they worked hard to complete the course and took on challenges without giving up.

According to the questionnaire results of the successful applicants, about one-third of them felt that they were not good at the designated study subjects (the designated subject this time was mathematics), but they were motivated to study in the department and challenged themselves. When asked why they chose to take the main entrance exam, they said, ``I learned that the college I wanted to study in required mathematics, and I was attracted to the fact that I could learn mathematics well before entering the school.'' Because I didn't learn enough mathematics at a commercial high school."

Successful applicants this time will also use "atama+" in pre-enrollment education to advance learning of more advanced content and prepare for learning at university. In addition, we will share the results of this research with other universities, and work with other universities to develop the "Joint Study Group for Considering New High School-University Connections and Entrance Examinations," which was the impetus for this initiative. From the next academic year onwards, in addition to expanding the number of applications for current faculties, we will expand to other faculties and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, and consider introducing subjects other than mathematics. We will promote the connection of new high school and university learning.
