The Japan Student Services Organization conducts an "attribute survey on scholarship returnees" every year in order to understand the attributes of scholarship returnees.This time, we announced the results of the 2016 survey.

 The subjects of the survey are those who are returning scholarships as of the end of November 2016. Of those who were overdue for 11 months or more, 3 were randomly selected, and among those who were not overdue, 19,623 were randomly selected.The response rate was 9,695 delinquents (response rate 2,838%) and 14.5 non-delinquents (response rate 2,402%).

 According to the survey, 58.8% of the delinquents answered, "Thanks to the scholarship, I was able to go on to higher education" as to "how the scholarship was useful".Among non-delinquents, the highest percentage of respondents who answered that they were able to reduce the burden on their households was 64.7%, confirming that the scholarships were being used effectively.

 Regarding the recognition of scholarship refund obligations, the ratio of those who are aware of "before applying" is 89.1% for non-delinquents, while 50.5% for delinquents.It seems that the recognition of the refund obligation until the application procedure is not sufficient.In addition, among the delinquents, the total number of those who knew the obligation to return after the end of the loan was 20.7%, and 11.5% of them answered that they knew "after receiving the delinquency reminder".

 As for the reason why the delinquency started, "Household income decreased" was the highest at 69.2%, followed by "Household spending increased" 43.0%, "Because of hospitalization, accident, disaster, etc." 19.2%, " I was busy. ”Followed 14.3%.

 また、返還困難者救済のための「返還期限猶予制度」の認知度については、2014年から3年間の推移をみると、延滞者で7.7ポイント(2014年度64.3%→2016年度72.0%)、無延滞者で3.8ポイント(2014年度:59.0%→2016年度62.8%)の改善がみられた。
