The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry conducted a questionnaire to companies and working people about the supply and demand situation of science and engineering human resources, and announced the survey results. In mechanical and IT fields, "important specialized fields in business" exceeded "specialized fields learned at university", and the needs of companies were high.

In order to strengthen the development of science and engineering human resources based on the needs of the industrial world, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has been conducting a survey since FY2014 to continuously grasp the human resources supply and demand situation of the industrial world and medium- to long-term needs. In fiscal 2017, in addition to a survey of about 3,000 working adults, we also surveyed 1 companies that are hiring science and engineering (1,702 responses, 17.02% recovery rate). We investigated the recruitment status of new university graduates and specialized fields where engineers will be in short supply in the future.

When asked about "specialized fields that are important in business" and "specialized fields that were learned at university" in the adult questionnaire, "specialized fields that are important in business" are "in university" in mechanical, hardware, software, and programs. It was found that the needs of the company were high because it exceeded the "specialized field learned".

Comparing the number of people scheduled to be hired in 2017 with the number of people actually hired in a company survey, the number of people hired decreased by 6.8% overall. In particular, mechanical engineering, electric power, civil engineering, hardware / software programs, and food science were not adopted as planned.

Comparing the number of people scheduled to be hired in 2017 with the number of people desired to be hired in 2019, the number of people desired to be hired decreased by 7.7% overall.Among them, the fields where the ratio is increasing are artificial intelligence (+ 125.0%), statistics / operations research (+ 90.9%), web computing (+ 84.7%), mathematics (+ 69.2%). was.

Mechanical engineering (5%), electric power (12.4%), communication / network (7.5%), and hardware / software programs (5.8%) were the most frequently answered fields in which engineers are expected to be in short supply in five years. , Civil engineering (5.7%).The most common reason for the shortage of engineers was "because other companies are increasing the number of hires in the field" (5.5%), followed by "student awareness of the industry and the company is low, and applications are not gathered and hiring is not possible. "Because" (53.4%) and "Because the number of students studying the field is small" (43.2%).
