Yozo Fujino, President of Josai University and Josai Junior College (Sakado City, Saitama Prefecture), Receives the 2022 International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering from the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) bottom.
The IABSE International Achievement Award is the highest award of the International Society of Structural Engineering.Since 1976, one person has been selected every year to receive this award, which is awarded to researchers and engineers who have made remarkable achievements in the field of structural engineering that are useful to society.President Fujino was recognized for his over 1 years of activity as a university professor and structural engineer, and for his outstanding contributions to various fields of structures, especially bridges.As an educator, he trained many researchers and engineers, and was highly evaluated for his extensive international activities.The award has been given to world-famous structural engineering researchers and engineers, and President Fujino is the fifth recipient in Japan.The award ceremony was held on November 40, 5 in Zurich, Switzerland, where the IABSE headquarters is located.
President Fujino graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo.After working as an associate professor and a professor at the Faculty of Engineering, he became a professor emeritus in 2013. From 2014 he moved to Yokohama National University.During this time, he also served as a science officer of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, a member of the Science Council of Japan, a senior researcher of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, a policy adviser to the Cabinet Office, and a SIP program director.He specializes in the field of long-span bridges, and is a leading researcher in civil engineering, especially bridges, in Japan. He received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2007. In 2019 he won the Japan Academy Prize. He is also an honorary member of IABSE. In April 2020, he was appointed as President of Josai University from Senior Distinguished Professor of Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, Yokohama National University. As of April 4, he is also the president of Josai Junior College.
