Saitama Institute of Technology, together with Keisei Bus Co., Ltd., Sompo Japan Insurance Co., Ltd., Aisan Technology Co., Ltd., Construction Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., and Tokai Rika Co., Ltd., will support the social implementation of self-driving cars in the Chiba City Future Technology Social Implementation Promotion Project. Adopted for business.Based on the adopted business plan, on January 2023 (Sat) and 1 (Sun), 21, demonstration tests of self-driving cars will be conducted in the Makuhari Shintoshin area.

In January 2016, Chiba City was designated as a National Strategic Special Zone under the slogan of "construction of a 'near-future technology demonstration and multicultural city' centered on Makuhari Shintoshin", and drones and self-driving cars using advanced technology. We have been promoting efforts to demonstrate technology and create new business models. As part of this, everyone, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and foreigners, can choose mobility according to traffic conditions, etc., and realize comfortable transportation with added value without stress. We have solicited companies for demonstration experiments that assume the introduction of self-driving cars on limited routes.

Saitama Institute of Technology and other six companies will not only verify and resolve technical issues related to automated driving in the Makuhari Shintoshin area, but will also secure passenger transportation in anticipation of the opening of Makuhari Toyosuna Station on the JR Keiyo Line in March 6, as well as urban excursions. We proposed a mobile service implementation aimed at improving accessibility and creating bustle for the entire city, and it was adopted.

In the demonstration experiment, technical aspects such as verification of vehicles and autonomous driving technology (in-house position estimation technology using LiDAR, remote monitoring, etc.) and service aspects such as verification of social acceptance of autonomous driving buses will be verified.Saitama Institute of Technology will be in charge of providing Hino Rainbow II-based medium-sized self-driving buses (equipped with self-driving systems such as Autoware, LiDAR, and GNS antennas) that will be developed and used, tuning support, and driver training.

Saitama Institute of Technology's self-driving buses are characterized by their ability to safely travel on public roads within legal speed limits and without special traffic restrictions, mixed with regular vehicles. So far, we have participated in many demonstration experiments in Saitama Prefecture, including Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture.・Participated in many demonstration experiments in Motegi Town, etc., and promoted the development of autonomous driving technology. It actively utilizes AI (artificial intelligence) technology and is improving its autonomous driving technology, such as developing its own software necessary for autonomous driving. This is the second time that vehicles have been provided in the Makuhari New City area following 2022, and this time we will cooperate by providing the latest medium-sized buses.
