The research group of Associate Professor Hitoshi Watanabe of the Center for Environmental Health Field Science, Chiba University announced that it will set up a cultivation base for seedlings of medicinal plants and functional plants in the center (Kashiwanoha Campus).Furthermore, in collaboration with Fujitsu Limited, we will start standardization of cultivation using the seedlings and empirical research to visualize the relationship between the growing environment and the growing situation all over the country.

Medicinal plants and functional plants are raw materials for Chinese herbs, health foods, and cosmetics, but most of them are imported from overseas. In Japan, cultivation needs are increasing due to the need to utilize abandoned cultivated land and fallow fields, and demand is also increasing. However, many medicinal plants and functional plants have a long cultivation period, and there are many problems in new cultivation such as securing seedlings, establishing cultivation methods that lead to high profits, and problems with sales channels.A safe, secure and stable supply of raw materials is desired.

Chiba University and Fujitsu have jointly started empirical research to solve the problem.Aim to establish cultivation technology for medicinal and functional plants.Chiba University will develop excellent seedlings, develop efficient seedling production technology using an advanced cell molded seedling production and utilization system, and implement cultivation technology guidance.Fujitsu cultivates seedlings developed and supplied at Chiba University at multiple sites nationwide, collects growth data, cultivation environment data, etc. by voice input with a smartphone and automatically classifies them by AI (natural language analysis).Utilize the obtained data to visualize the relationship between the cultivation environment and the growth situation.

Established "Japan Medicinal Functional Plant Promotion Organization" in the center to standardize the cultivation method of medicinal plants and functional plants and establish quality standards. In the future, we will utilize a system that supports the standardization of cultivation technology of Fujitsu, provide cultivation guidance to agricultural personnel who wish to enter the cultivation of medicinal plants and functional plants, and promote the spread and cultivation of the plant by suitable crops in the right places. Proceed.
