Professor Naoyuki Iso (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Faculty of Engineering, Chukyo University received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Science and Technology Award" (understanding promotion category).The achievement name is "Improvement of understanding of wireless science for children through communication experience with astronauts".Professor Iso is the award following the 2013 Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications commendation.
Professor Iso's team has continued to carry out community-based "delivery-type" scientific understanding promotion activities in various parts of the four Tokai prefectures.The opportunity was the activity at the 4 Japan International Exposition (Ai-Chikyu Expo).Since then, through a joint project with NASA, a total of 2005 wireless communication experiences (ARISS school contact) between elementary and junior high school students and astronauts staying at the International Space Station (ISS) have been planned in the Tokai region.About 12 elementary and junior high school students succeeded in communicating.In addition, an electronic work class and a science cafe were held, and more than 200 elementary and junior high school students participated.
Participating elementary and junior high school students directly ask astronauts questions and receive replies, and families and local residents also effectively promote understanding of space science and radio engineering, and have a ripple effect by collaborating with science cafes and the like. Professor Iso said, "I am very happy to receive the award, but I had to cooperate with many people such as local student volunteers and amateur radio leagues. I think I received it as a representative of everyone involved." Said.
