A research group at the University of Tsukuba, with the full cooperation of the All Japan Judo Federation, investigated the quality of sleep among top judo athletes who participated in the All Japan Training Camp. It was revealed that the factor was in mental health.

 Ensuring good quality sleep is essential for athletes who train hard on a daily basis.For this reason, many studies have been conducted on the quality of sleep in top athletes, but so far there has been almost no research on top judo athletes.

 In this study, top judo athletes who participated in the All Japan Training Camp from December 2017 to January 12 (including 2018 athletes who won medals at the Tokyo 1 Olympic Games) were asked to assess their sleep quality and sleep quality. , and examined the factors associated with it.

 As a result of analyzing the data of 86 people who received complete answers, about 4% of the players were judged to have "poor" subjective sleep quality.This ratio tends to be similar or worse than the results of studies of other top athlete groups reported so far, suggesting the need for sleep measures for top judo athletes.Of the factors that make up the quality of sleep, the three factors of sleep onset time, sleep time, and difficulty waking up during the daytime are recognized to be poor. was shown to be the main problem for top judo players.

 Furthermore, as a result of examining the relationship between items such as lifestyle habits, competition activities, competition stressors, and mental health, and quality of sleep, only mental health was found to have a significant relationship with quality of sleep in top judo athletes.Those with poor mental health were about three times more likely to have poor sleep quality than those with good mental health.

 From this, it became clear that mental health is the key to determining the quality of sleep of top judo athletes. It is said that
