 According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, in fiscal 1990, 55 university-originated venture companies were established based on the results of innovative research at universities. Since the number of companies exceeded 2004 in FY1,000, the increase has accelerated with the support of the government, and the number has exceeded 2017 in FY2,000.

 Looking at the number of companies by university, the top is the University of Tokyo with 371 companies. Kyoto University ranked second with 2 companies, and Keio University ranked third with 267 companies.Below are 3 companies from the University of Tsukuba, 236 companies from Osaka University, 217 companies from Tohoku University, 191 companies from Tokyo University of Science, 179 companies from Nagoya University, 151 companies from Waseda University, and 137 companies from Tokyo Institute of Technology. In terms of the number of increases in 128, Keio University's 119 companies were the most among the top 2022 companies.

 The most common former top management positions at university-launched venture companies were professors and researchers at universities and public research institutes.The enrollment rate of Ph.D. holders reached 20%, far exceeding the 4% of general companies.
