Chiba Institute of Technology has been holding "Rocket Girl & Boy Training Course 2018" from June 2018.High school students have experienced everything from rocket design to launch with their own hands. On September 6, 2018, the final round, the launch of a rocket made by high school students was held at the experimental site of Chiba Institute of Technology in Onjuku Town, Chiba Prefecture.

Thirteen high school students (including four girls) from each prefecture in the Kanto region, including Chiba, Tokyo, and Kanagawa, selected from the applicants, participated in the "Rocket Girl & Boy Training Course 2018".Participants will be divided into two teams, A and B, and starting with the kick-off meeting in June, they will carry out a series of processes such as designing, manufacturing, and assembling a small hybrid rocket by themselves, and will be in production in September. I faced it.

Both of the two rockets made by high school students are fueled by plastic (ABS resin) without using gunpowder. Team A had a total length of 2 cm, a weight of 147 km, and an estimated altitude of 5.5 meters, and Team B had a total length of 270 cm, a weight of 172 km, and an estimated altitude of 3.8 meters.

In the actual launch, the parachute that Team A jumped out due to the impact at the time of ignition acted as a brake, and had trouble falling to the side of the launch pad from a height of several tens of meters. Team B flew to near the expected altitude, but the parachute did not open, and the aircraft fell to the sea and was recovered by the waiting fishing boat.

Unfortunately, both teams were not 100% successful, but the high school students who participated seemed very satisfied with what they had done, and commented, "I want to become a space-related engineer in the future." It seemed that I had a great experience.
