The Overseas Study Council (JAOS), which consists of 66 private study abroad companies, conducts a survey of the number of Japanese international students among 38 study abroad companies that are JAOS members. As a result, it became clear that while studying abroad in the Philippines increased, studying abroad in the United States decreased.

JAOS conducts the "Survey on the Number of Japanese International Students by the Overseas Study Council (JAOS)" every year in order to provide statistical data on the number of international students including working adults and elementary, junior high and high school students.According to this survey, the annual number of international students in 2017 was 78,109. The number of international students decreased from the 2016 survey in the United States and Australia, especially in the United States from 19,024 (2016) to 17,894 (2017), a decrease of 1,130.By study abroad purpose, the decrease in the number of people who went to the United States for the purpose of studying abroad was the largest. On the other hand, the number of students studying abroad for a bachelor's degree in the United States increased by 680 from 2016 (741) to 2017 (61).Although language study abroad has decreased due to the recent image of security and immigration policy in the United States, the number of Japanese high school students aiming to go abroad is increasing, and the number of people aiming for a degree at an American university is increasing. I understood.

In the Philippines, the number of international students from JAOS was 2016 in the 6,238 survey, but in 2017 it increased to 6,755, an increase of 517.It has become the fourth country with the largest number of international students, overtaking the 6,648 students in the United Kingdom. The number of international students in the Philippines has increased by 4 over the past two years, which is due to the increased awareness of studying abroad in the Philippines in Japan. It is thought that this is because not only working people but also university students and high school students have come to choose the Philippines as their study abroad destination, and companies, universities, and high schools have started to use Philippine schools as training destinations.

By purpose of study abroad, the number of students studying abroad at junior high and high schools increased by 15,200 from 2016 (15,870) to 2017 (670), and the number of most popular language study abroad programs for Japanese students is decreasing. , I greatly increased the number of people. It is thought that this is a trend due to the progress of globalization in Japan and the increase in the number of parents who want their children to be educated so that they can become global human resources.
