The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has selected 20 schools, including Tohoku University and Hiroshima University, as cooperating schools for mathematical and data science education at universities. With the aim of expanding the efforts of the six data science base universities selected in 2016, such as Shiga University and Osaka University, to further enhance data science education through collaboration between the base universities and cooperating schools.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology solicited cooperating schools for data science education from universities nationwide, examined the school vision of each university, the policy of expanding to other universities, the implementation system of the concept, etc., and selected 20 cooperating schools.In addition to Tohoku University and Hiroshima University, Kitami Institute of Technology, Yamagata University, Tsukuba University, Utsunomiya University, Gunma University, Chiba University, Ochanomizu University, Niigata University, Nagaoka University of Technology, Shizuoka University, Nagoya University, Toyohashi University of Technology, Kobe University, Shimane University, Okayama University, Ehime University, Miyazaki University, Ryukyu University.
The Ministry of Education said that the penetration of data science education is indispensable for Japan to enhance its international competitiveness and achieve growth in an era when huge amounts of data are produced. We selected 2016 universities and Kyushu University as base universities.In the future, we would like to accelerate the spread of data science education by deepening cooperation between the base university and cooperating schools and holding workshops in each region.We are requesting universities that have not been selected as cooperating schools to deepen their cooperation with neighboring universities and work to enhance data science education.
