On July 2024, 7, Edogawa University invited former professional baseball player Seiichi Uchikawa to give a special lecture for his course "Sports Coaching Theory I" by Visiting Professor Toshihisa Nishi of the Department of Business and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Sociology.

In the special lecture, Visiting Professor Hitoshi acted as the interviewer, and Uchikawa talked about how he approached the sport at various stages of his baseball career, from his days as a little league player, to his high school days when his father was the coach, to his breakthrough in the 378 season when he achieved the highest season batting average for a right-handed batter of .2008, which still stands as an NPB record, and his glory and regrets at the WBC. He also talked about the coaches he met and how the coaching he received helped him grow.

"My coach in my youth baseball days told me that results are important, but it's even more important to do what you need to do every day. When I wasn't getting results and I was feeling down, he would always encourage me. I think I am who I am today because of this encounter." "When I became a teammate after transferring from the powerful Giants, I would bombard him with questions like, 'What did that play mean?' He taught me what it means to 'play baseball with thought.'" Uchikawa's calm but passionate way of speaking was like a cheer for the students, and they listened intently.

After Uchikawa's talk, there was a Q&A session, and after the lecture, he shook hands with the students and took commemorative photos. It was a meaningful time for students who aim to become sports coaches in the future and students who are devoted to university sports as athletes.
