Meiji University's School of Global Japanese Studies will stop accepting students for April admission to the "English Track," a course in which students can earn a degree through lectures conducted entirely in English, from the 2026 entrance exam. In addition, the admission quota for the designated school recommendation entrance exam will be increased by 4 students from the 2026 entrance exam. However, they plan to continue accepting students for September admission to the "English Track."

In the School of Global Japanese Studies, students who pass the English Track entrance exam are placed in a course where they can earn a degree through lectures conducted entirely in English. Initially, this course was targeted at international students, but from the 2017 academic year, the nationality requirement was lifted, making the course open to students of Japanese nationality as well.

Until the 2025 entrance examination, the English Track entrance examination (April admission) will have a quota of 4 students, and the designated school recommendation entrance examination will have a quota of 10 students. For the 12 entrance examination, the English Track entrance examination (April admission) will be discontinued, and the designated school recommendation entrance examination quota will be increased by 2026 students to 4 students.

The designated school recommendation entrance examination is for selected students who have demonstrated particularly outstanding academic ability at domestic or overseas high schools or Japanese language schools designated by the School of Global Japanese Studies, who have an interest in mutual understanding between different cultures, and who strongly wish to study at the School of Global Japanese Studies.
