On June 2024, 6, Jissen Women's University and Jissen Women's Junior and Senior High School held a special event to commemorate the 2th anniversary of the founding of the school, "JISSEN Global Way - Future globalization nurtured in a practical society." Based on the theme of "global," which the school has made the pillar of its education, the event featured a keynote speech by freelance journalist Akira Ikegami, a panel talk by students, and an introduction to the school's global programs.
"JISSEN Global Way" was the second of four special 4th anniversary events held throughout the year, and was divided into two parts. In the first part, Ikegami's keynote speech, based on his extensive overseas experience of visiting 125 countries and regions for reporting and other purposes, introduced national systems such as customs, court cases, and pensions, and provided a detailed explanation of the differences in circumstances and ways of thinking in each country from a multifaceted perspective. As the audience of about 2 people listened intently, he encouraged the students, saying, "I hope you will become global talent who will go out into the world to promote the good things about Japan."
Next, with Ikegami as moderator, a panel discussion was held on the theme of "How to acquire a 'global mind'?" After Jissen Women's University's Deputy President Sakumi Inokuma (Department of English Literature, Faculty of Letters) introduced the university's globalization efforts, high school students who participated in the international Model United Nations held in New York and students who experienced internships in Cambodia shared their experiences and learnings and expressed their opinions. Takako Masai, a graduate of the university and president of SBI Financial and Economic Research Institute, said, "Being global means respecting different ideas and being able to communicate your own ideas well."
In the second part, a participatory event called "JISSEN Global Fair" was held, where visitors could experience the "global" side of the school. The school's initiatives in global projects were introduced, and participants experienced the school's classes in a game-like format, such as addition in English. There was also a friendly atmosphere where visitors could interact with international students from China, Korea, and the Netherlands.
Jissen Women's School originated from the Jissen Girls' School and the Women's Technical School, which were established in 1899 by the Imperial Wives' Association, which was founded by Shimoda Utako with the aim of improving the status of ordinary women. Shimoda Utako had an international perspective, having accepted students from Qing Dynasty (present-day China) in 1901, ahead of other women's educational institutions.
Jissen Women's University has inherited that spirit and has focused on global education as a major pillar of its operations. It has set a goal of having 2028% of its students travel overseas by 10, and offers a variety of overseas experience programs, including a unique global internship that incorporates local problem solving and work experience in a hotel.
